Episode 4 - Jack Smith Part 1

Thank you to those who have listened to this podcast. Now it’s time for me to share my story. It’s important for me to share not because I want to center myself but because I want listeners to understand my motivation for this project. I don’t look to glorify or glamorize addiction but I want to really get into why and how addiction happens, raw and unfiltered. I hope that by sharing my story it will encourage others to do the same. Stay tuned for Part 2.

Welcome

Welcome to the Diary of an Addict podcast. I'm your host Jack Smith. The Diary of an Addict is a place where people can share their stories about life in addiction, including active addiction and addiction recovery. Sharing these moments, raw and unfiltered, has a twofold effect. It helps the storyteller deal with shame, which is an obstacle in almost everyone's recovery journey. It also helps bond ties with the listener who, like most addicts, may feel like nobody truly knows what they are going through.

Hearing stories most people would hide in a diary may help others feel like they are not alone. Hearing someone say it took them multiple times to finally stay sober might encourage someone else not to give up. Stories have the power to help not only the person listening but the person telling. The listener gains a sense of hope and inspiration while the storyteller liberates themselves by using their life experiences to create a survival guide for others with similar struggles.

Everyone on this podcast, myself included, started at the same place, rock bottom. But the thing about rock bottom is, there ain't nowhere to go but up. Join me as we listen, learn, and grow together.
